Mechanical seal is a kind of shaft seal device of rotating machinery. Such as centrifugal pumps, centrifuges, reactors and compressors. Because the transmission shaft runs through the inside and outside of the equipment, there is a circumferential gap between the shaft and the equipment, and the medium in the equipment leaks out through the gap. If the pressure in the equipment is lower than the atmospheric pressure, the air will leak into the equipment, so there must be a shaft sealing device to prevent the leakage. There are many kinds of shaft seals. Because mechanical seal has the advantages of less leakage and long service life, mechanical seal is the most important shaft seal in these equipment in the world. Mechanical seal is also called end face seal, which is defined in the relevant national standards as follows: "a device to prevent fluid leakage is composed of at least one pair of end faces perpendicular to the axis of rotation, which keep sticking and sliding under the action of fluid pressure, elastic force (or magnetic force) of compensation mechanism and the cooperation of auxiliary seal."
